uniform design + branding
problem | When the NHL Winter Classic came to Chicagos’ Wrigley Field in 2025, Notre Dame Hockey had the unique opportunity to play a BIG10 hockey game on the NHL’s ice. The team requested a custom jersey in celebration of playing at Wrigley Field, and Notre Dame’s close proximity to Chicago.

solution | Notre Dame is situated just two hours outside of Chicago, creating strong ties between the University and iconic Wrigley Field. To celebrate, the uniform presents Notre Dame as one of Chicago’s teams, placing iconography unique to the city right at the forefront. Directly inspired by the Chicago flag, the uniform features a game-specific color palette, sleeve striping that recreates the Chicago flag with a Notre Dame flare, a new center chest logo, and number design.

main uniform logo: the center chest logo combines the Notre Dame Leprechaun with the classic “C” of both the Chicago Cubs and the city itself, presenting Notre Dame Hockey as one of Chicago’s teams. The shadowing under the “C” features the Notre Dame Founder’s Lines (9 lines most prominently found in football’s endzone, but featured throughout each of Notre Dame’s sport facilities).
sleeves: the sleeve and stomach stripes honor the iconic Chicago flag, whose light blue color runs throughout the uniform. The sleeve stripes particularly replicate the flag design, with the standard four red stars replaced with golden shamrocks.
numbers: the number design strives for a bold, energetic look, with a dramatic drop shadow behind each number. To tie back directly to Notre Dame’s culture, each number features a single shamrock at the bottom, and the Notre Dame Founder’s Lines within the drop shadow.
